Diocesan Development & Welfare Society celebrated the International Women’ s Day at the premises of St. Marys Convent, Taraon on 9th March, under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Antony K.K, in which more than 300 women and girls participated with full enthusiasms. As per Indian tradition the event started by a prayer dance performed by the adolescent girls group of Taraon village. After the prayer dance, celebration was carried forward by wonderful welcome dance performance by the adolescent girls of Pathartal village.
Further Sr. Freda oriented the participants on the importance of education to be socially and economically empowered. She said that because of blind beliefs and various practices the society is sinking and education is the only tool to safeguard society in general and women in particular. She also motivated the participants to be independent and demand for their rights.
Thereafter women of SHG from Bador village presented nice motivational song “behano o behano milkar badle Hindustan” which means “let us come together and create a beautiful India”. It was heart touching song for all.
One girl Kiran had given speech on Safety & Security of girls‟. She also spoke about the victim of Delhi Gang rape case. She talked about was enough to make us aware about these type of incidents.
Thereafter a very thoughtful drama was presented by the girls of Pathartal village. The drama portrayed the environmental condition of Today’s world and how we can save our environment by planting small plants and trees. Speaking on the inaugural session Fr. Antony K. K. (Director, DDWS, Allahabad) described about the importance of International women’s day and the role of women in building up the society. To portray the situation of women in India a drama was presented by “Subhasnagar Kishori Samuh”.
Anchoring was done by Mrs. Rekha and Kiran. They made interaction with audience to make the event live.Momentos was given to invited guests by Fr. Antony
Prize was also given to Kavita Rai for best article published in INFO Magazine of UKSVK
As we celebrated this momentous occasion, each of us carried good memories.
At last Fr. Antony K.K concluded the program saying that women should fight against the gender discrimination and also emphasized that woman is the life giver to the whole human race and it is the responsibility of everyone to give her a respectable status and honour in society. He advised women to empower themselves without waiting for any external agency to help them. Finally the programme came to an end with the distribution of lunch packets to all who were present in this celebration.
